During Cybersecurity Week, everything comes together. The many events including the flagship ONE Conference provide opportunities to network, meet key players, discuss the latest developments, share knowledge and create awareness with Dutch and European partners.

The cybersecurity market in the Netherlands is valued at approximately EUR 16 billion as of 2021 and is among the fastest-growing sectors, with an annual growth rate of 10-15%. Additionally, the sector generates an added value of nearly EUR 10 billion. The Dutch cybersecurity sector is distinguished by several strengths: an interdisciplinary approach that combines humanities, sciences, and social sciences; robust expertise in quantum technology; and a focus on highly service-oriented companies.

The sector faces a number of challenges, providing many opportunities for Sweden and Swedish companies:

  • Customers: The Dutch market is mainly small and service-focused with a high dependency on foreign imports of software, hardware and managed services
  • Technology: A lack of large players leads to low or nearly zero private R&D among Dutch companies who focus on providing services instead of products
  • Personnel: There is a major shortage of personnel with a cybersecurity profile, and many graduates choose to work for foreign companies rather than domestic
  • Awareness: While society is increasingly digitalising, there is still limited awareness among Dutch organisations and consumers around risks and vulnerabilities
  • VC/scaling: There is relatively little venture capital available and it is difficult for startups to scale their solutions or find subsidies to support growth
  • Acquisition: A large cybersecurity ecosystem leads to high degree of acquisition activity for businesses who manage to develop scalable products/services
