At COP28, there was a global consensus to triple renewables capacity to 2030, also reported by IEA (International Energy Agency) as the key to keep the door open to the 1.5 degree goal.

According to IEA flagship report “World Energy Outlook” published in October 2024 the world is now moving towards “the era of electricity” (leaving “the era of oil”).

But do we have enough tools in the toolbox to achieve the set climate goals? How can Sweden help to speed up climate-tech innovations to enable the world to reach the set climate goals?

Swedish tech company Minesto offers a technology that generates electricity from tidal streams and ocean currents, with potential to unlock a new energy source that is renewable, predictable and affordable.

Swedish Energy Agency business acceleration program BAPSEA aims to accelerate technologies in the Southeast Asia, where Minesto’s technology can make an important difference to reduce emissions in one of the world’s biggest ocean economies.

This discussion highlights Minesto is an example of Swedish innovations and climate solutions that can unlock renewable energy around the world and make a difference in countries today heavy-dependent on fossil fuels, thus high emissions.
