Transforming the planet with JuTech™
Presentation
Juteborg Sweden AB is a Swedish System Design & Innovation company developing and commercialising JuTech™ – high-tech composite materials based on the natural fibre jute. The company’s vision is to make “The Golden Fibre – Jute” a natural choice for replacing less sustainable materials and enabling more circular material flows. Juteborg was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden.Juteborg combines industrial innovation, research and development, material technology and international supply-chain expertise. Its circular business model covers the full value chain, including innovation and co-creation, R&D, production, sales, recycling and reuse. The company works with a broad ecosystem of industrial companies, universities, research institutes and other partners in Sweden, Europe, Bangladesh and India.
The core technology platform is JuTech™, a portfolio of jute-based composites designed to reduce or replace materials such as plastics, glass fibre and other energy-intensive materials. A key product is JutePP®, a family of thermoplastic granulates for injection moulding and 3D printing. JutePP® can contain up to approximately 50% jute, either as reinforcement fibre or as jute-stick powder filler, combined with virgin, recycled or bio-based polypropylene. An important industrial advantage is that these materials can be processed using existing injection-moulding equipment and tooling.
Juteborg has demonstrated its technologies through several Proof-of-Concept projects. In an automotive cable-bracket project, JutePP® with 35% jute reinforcement replaced PA66 with 30% glass fibre. The component passed demanding impact, temperature and chemical-contact tests and was approximately 30% lighter than the original component.
The company has also developed high-tech jute fabrics and composite structures. Examples include the JuteBee™ electric vehicle, JuteOptimist™ marine demonstrator and JuteBox™, a bio-based sandwich-composite concept for electric-vehicle battery boxes.
Juteborg’s primary strategic markets are automotive and transportation, with growing focus on defence and dual-use applications. Both sectors require lightweight, durable and cost-efficient materials, high production capacity and increasingly sustainable and resilient supply chains. Additional application areas include construction and interiors, textiles and packaging.
Juteborg operates as a lean, network-based organisation, with much of its production network located in Bangladesh and India, close to where jute is cultivated. Through its Farmer2Factory concept, the company aims to create a transparent supply chain while supporting local processing, employment and social development.
Jute combines low weight, strength, stiffness, renewability, cost efficiency and large-scale availability, making it attractive for advanced industrial applications. Juteborg’s business model is therefore not limited to selling materials; the company supports customers from innovation and material selection through R&D, prototyping, industrialisation and commercial supply
In 2024, Juteborg was selected for the MobilityXLab acceleration programme, as one of four companies chosen from 109 applicants in 28 countries, confirming its position within the international mobility innovation ecosystem.
