Please note that the programme below presents an indicative overview of the programme and time slots.

DAY 1

Tuesday, October 6th 2026

Morning session

  • 11:00 - Registration and networking (drop-in & mingle with Swedish Tech Suppliers within sustainable Heating and Cooling)
  • 12:00 - Official programme start - Welcome and Introduction of the programme
  • Swedish Energy Agency, SweHeat & Cooling and Business Sweden

Mingle Lunch

Afternoon session

Challenges for District Heating and Introduction to the Baltic Energy Shift Project

  • Professor Adam Cenian, IMP PAN Institute, Gdańsk, Poland

The Baltic Energy Shift (BES) project is an EU South Baltic initiative focused on supporting the transition of district heating systems towards greater sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience. The session will introduce the project and discuss key challenges and opportunities facing district heating in the energy transition.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kraftringen: Competing in a Changing Heat Market and Strengthening Energy Security

  • Sezgin Kadir, CEO, and Marie Klingmann, Director of Innovation, Kraftringen

Kraftringen is one of Sweden’s largest local energy companies, providing district heating, electricity, and energy services across southern Sweden. Kraftringen, is owned by the City of Lund and neighbouring municipalities, has decades of experience competing with heat pump solutions while also integrating heat pumps into its own district energy system. The company has further strengthened regional energy security and grid stability through investments in biofuel-based CHP.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

End-to-End Integration Between District Heating Utilities and Customer Buildings

  • David Edsbäcker, Kraftringen, Strategy Manager, Kraftringen

SmartFlex – A Digital Platform for Flexible District Energy Systems demonstrates how digital solutions can support optimisation, demand-side flexibility, and customer engagement in district energy systems.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Solutions for optimisation, automation and customer integration

  • Swedish Tech Experts

Technology providers will present solutions for operational optimisation, automation, and customer integration that help utilities improve competitiveness and prepare for future energy system requirements.

Evening

The day concludes with informal meetings and networking opportunities in the historic centre of Lund, at participants’ own expense. We will help facilitate meetings based on participants’ interests, and further information will be shared closer to the delegation. Participation in this activity is optional, but please indicate when registering if you would like to take part or not.

DAY 2

Wednesday, October 7th 2026

Morning session

Three Parallel Study Visits (Rotating Sessions within a 1 km radius)

Participants will rotate between three closely located sites in Lund, showcasing different approaches to integrated heating and cooling, low-temperature district energy, and local energy sharing systems.

1) Energy Centre - Max IV laboratory

  • Host: Martin Gierow, Product Manager, Kraftringen

Exploring the integration of heating and cooling as interconnected systems, including cooling supply to the MAX IV Laboratory and 4GDH solutions for the Brunnshög district, a mixed urban area with offices and residential buildings.

2) Brunnshög District - 4GDH Demonstration Site

  • Host: Holger Feurstein, Project Manager Kraftringen

Presentation of one of the world’s most advanced 4GDH networks, including a live demonstration of a heat transfer unit in the Brunnshög district.

3) Medicon Village - Ectogrid System

  • Host: Gustav Adolfsson, Senior Technical Solutions manager, E.ON

Showcasing local energy sharing through heat recovery, combined heating and cooling, and thermal storage within a 5GDHC system.

Lunch

Afternoon session

Interactive workshops based on visitor feedback and requests, designed to enable knowledge exchange and focused discussions with Swedish district heating experts and operators.

Workshop 1: Success Factors and Solution Toolbox for Competitive District Heating

An interactive discussion on key success factors for profitable district heating companies, including experience with large-scale heat pumps, competition with in-building heat pumps and pricing models, electrification, and the integration of district heating with geothermal energy, storage, and cooling.

Workshop 2: New Value Streams and Resilience for District Heating Operators

A workshop focused on new value streams for district heating operators, with special attention to smaller systems and how to strengthen competitiveness through electricity generation, energy security, and resource resilience. Includes a case from Region Skåne (south of Sweden), highlighting the constrained electricity situation in southern Sweden, with participation from regional DH operators.

Dinner

The day concludes with an official delegation dinner, offering opportunities for networking and informal exchange.

DAY 3

Thursday, October 8th 2026

Morning session

Bus travel to Helsingborg

Two Parallel Tracks

Track 1: Interactive Workshop in Lund - Study Tour Öresundskraft, Helsingborg

  • Magnus Ohlsson, Öresundskraft

Öresundskraft is a municipally owned energy company in Helsingborg operating one of Sweden’s most advanced district heating systems, with extensive underground infrastructure and pipe networks from the 1960s–1970s. The company integrates district heating with electricity and waste-to-energy solutions in a region with constrained power capacity around the Öresund area. The study visit includes an underground tour and insights into extending the lifetime of long-serving pipe systems.

Track 2: Achieving a 100-Year Service Life for District Heating Pipe Networks

  • Håkan Knutsson, SweHeat & Cooling, Swedish Council for District Heating
  • Swedish Tech Experts

A discussion on how to secure a 100-year service life for new and existing district heating pipe networks through improved design, operation, and maintenance practices. The session brings together Swedish DH experts and international participants facing similar infrastructure challenges.

Lunch and Closing of Delegation Programme

  • Approximately 13:00 - Programme concludes with a rolling-exit lunch

The lunch is a drop-out lunch and marks the formal conclusion of the delegation programme. The afternoon offers flexibility for additional tailored sessions addressing specific market requirements. Market-specific programme elements will be developed based on participant requests, with further information to follow.
