Novohydro is pioneering the adaptation of nickel–hydrogen (NiH₂) battery technology, long used in satellites and spacecraft systems, for terrestrial energy storage applications. Originally developed for the extreme conditions of space, NiH₂ chemistry is known for its exceptional durability, safety, and longevity. Novohydro is now working to transform this space-proven technology into a cost-effective and scalable solution for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) on Earth.

Through ongoing research partnerships and material innovation, Novohydro is adapting and repurposing space-proven NiH₂ battery technology to make it economically and technically viable for terrestrial applications. This work focuses on cost reduction, system simplification, and modular scalability, while maintaining the high reliability and long service life characteristic of aerospace-grade systems.
Novohydro’s NiH₂ batteries are designed to deliver superior cycle life, high round-trip efficiency, wide temperature tolerance, and inherent safety without relying on scarce or flammable materials. With long-term service life and full recyclability, Novohydro’s NiH₂ batteries offer a sustainable and circular alternative to conventional lithium-ion technology.

Building on collaborations within energy storage and power electronics, Novohydro is now seeking new partnerships to explore applications and system integrations across emerging energy domains. Areas of joint interest include coupling hydrogen generation with storage technologies, validating modular energy systems in demanding environments, and co-developing next-generation hybrid solutions for both civilian and defense use.
