The world is on a trajectory of change but how countries navigate the accumulative challenges influencing economic growth will define the success of generations to come. How can the OECD economic outlook provide a platform for understanding the Swedish business ecosystem as a global role model?

13:30-15:30 - Session 1: Join Sweden to grow world-leading companies

Creating the foundation for long-term growth with Sweden

Creating a world-class business environment that fosters long-term growth requires bold and brave decisions and investments from all stakeholders. • Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson, Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation

Innovation – the primary driver for competitiveness
Sweden has been able to maintain and exceed innovation expectations and stay relevant in the global market for over 150 years. Securing the workforce of tomorrow
To deliver and power the industrial, digital, and sustainable transformation, there needs to be a major investment in upskilling a sizeable workforce with appropriate technological and cognitive skills. Developing green value chains through innovation and collaboration
No one country, company, or individual can deliver the solutions needed to build new green value chains; but collaboration and partnerships across country, business, and industry lines can bring the technical innovation needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across value chains. How are Swedish and international companies working together to take risks and disrupt traditional value chains?

Green transition in practice – from materials to products
Sustainable ideas of yesterday are being turned into tomorrow’s realities; cross-industry collaborations have shifted the automotive industry, created green steel, and are reinventing agriculture technology. This disruption has been possible because of a shift in the entire value chain - from raw materials to end products. How can international companies in Sweden excel in the transformation to build and accelerate fossil fuel-free production methods?

A changing global investment landscape
International investment flows have been dramatically impacted by the turmoil of the past few years, first with the pandemic and now with the war in Ukraine. The World Investment Report 2022 outlines the current global situation for foreign direct investment, international tax reforms, and sustainable investment. How has Sweden recovered and what challenges and opportunities are there for future short- and long-term global investment?
Speakers:

  • James Zhan, Director Division on Investment and Enterprise, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development

17:00-17:10 - Concluding remarks: Join Sweden to accelerate your competitiveness
Sweden is a nation open for business with ambitious goals that will only be achieved through global collaboration. Investing in, and with Sweden can deliver competitive advantages, but how is the state, industry, and business ecosystems supporting international companies to leverage the potential?
