Taking Locally Led Adaptation to Scale Passed

Tuesday November 18, 2025 15:00 - 16:30 -03 The Swedish pavilion - Open for public

Category: TRANSFORMING AGRICULTURE & FOOD SYSTEMS

The Principles on Locally-led Adaptation (LLA) were adopted in 2021 by 40 public and private institutions, with the number since rising to 130. While the momentum for LLA has kept growing, what does this mean for communities on the frontline of the climate crisis? How are the principles being applied in practice and what is the change we can see? How can we scale-up best practices, partnerships and policies?

This event will provide a set of perspectives from organisations implementing locally-led adaptation, showcasing the opportunities, challenges and lessons learned from the ground in Gambia and Dominican Republic. Focus will be given to issues around:

  • short term humanitarian versus longer-term adaptation needs
  • application of climate information, community tools and approaches
  • and the strength of partnerships from local to global level

The event will also provide perspectives on the role of adaptation finance in supporting locally-led adaptation and  discuss the opportunities for integrating LLA into national planning (e.g. NAPs and NDCs), as well as into local planning and programming. It will briefly introduce new practical guidance on LLA and show how intermediaries can play a critical role in bridging the range of actors involved in enabling LLA.
