The focus on reducing emissions has too often overlooked the needs of those most affected by climate change. Women and gender-diverse people are often excluded from climate policy decisions and implementation, despite that climate change is worsening gender inequalities and gender-based violence.

COP30 is a critical moment to address this gap. Negotiations on a strengthened Gender Action Plan offer an opportunity to embed intersectional, gender-transformative approaches across all pillars of the climate regime, ensuring that women, girls, and gender-diverse people can fully participate in and benefit from the transition.

Welcome to a conversation on how different actors can contribute to ensure that climate action includes a focus on gender equality and amplifies the voices of those most affected by the climate crisis.

Moderator: Karin Lexén, Secretary General at Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC)

Speakers:

  • Jennifer Unelius, Negotiator, gender focal point (Sweden/EU)
  • Lucia Ortiz, Political Coordinator, Amigas da Terra Brasil
  • Bridget Burns, Executive Director WEDO, Women and Gender Constituency
