The Baltic Energy Shift (BES) project is an EU South Baltic initiative focused on supporting the transition of district heating systems towards greater sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience. The session will present the project and discuss key challenges and opportunities facing district heating in the energy transition.

Kraftringen is one of Sweden’s largest local energy companies, providing district heating, electricity, and energy services across southern Sweden. Kraftringen, is owned by the City of Lund and neighbouring municipalities and has decades of experience competing with heat pump solutions while also integrating heat pumps into its own district energy system. The company has further strengthened regional energy security and grid stability through investments in biofuel-based CHP. Sezgin Kadir, the CEO is also Chairman of Swedenergy; the Swedish industry organisation for companies that supply, distribute, sell, and store energy – mainly electricity, heating, and cooling.
