Programme

Please note that the programme below presents an indicative overview of the programme and time slots.

DAY 1

9th September 2025

09.00 - 11.00 Arrival to Lund and Check-in

11.00 - 12.00  Welcome & Introduction

12.00 - 13.00 Networking Lunch

13.00 Afternoon site visits

Visit 1: E. ON ectogrid at Medicon Village, 5GDHC system, with front-end heat pumps

The first visit is to Medicon Village, a life science hub within Lund’s Ideon Science District. Here, E.ON’s ectogrid system has replaced conventional district heating (DH) and cooling (DC), introducing a more balanced approach to thermal energy. The system uses heat pumps to cool laboratory freezers and premises, while reusing condenser-side heat for heating. A thermal accumulator helps align heating and cooling needs, with additional support from large air-to-water heat pumps. Medicon Village remains connected to conventional DH and DC networks as a backup.

Visit 2:  Kraftringen, Brunnshög - cooling to one customer, reuse of heat and 4GDH heating to new customers

Kraftringen, the local energy provider in Lund, supplies process cooling to the scientific laboratories at MAX IV—comparable to the cooling systems used in data centers. A series of medium-sized heat pumps deliver the cooling, and the waste heat they generate is recovered and upgraded via a second set of heat pumps. The resulting heat, raised to 60°C, is distributed through a fourth-generation district heating (4GDH) network serving the newly developed residential area of Brunnshög.

Recap of the Day

19.00 - open end Networking Dinner

DAY 2

10th September 2025

09.00 - 12.00 Morning session

Visit 3: Kraftringen - digital integration with customers - for energy saving and sector coupled optimisation

Kraftringen, the energy company serving Lund, Eslöv, and Lomma, has developed and implemented e-Flex in collaboration with leading technology partners. This digital system integrates the supply of district heating, cooling, and electricity with customer-side energy flexibility and efficiency

Discussion and impulses from tech specialists

With input from specialists we will explore emerging technologies, innovative approaches, and the role of data and digitalisation in transforming the energy and heating landscape.
