Swedish and Japanese companies joining forces to speed up the green transition in Japan.
なぜ私たちはこれに取り組むのか―そして、なぜ今なのか。
スウェーデンと日本におけるグリーントランジションと持続可能性の追求は、いま正念場を迎えている。両国はそれぞれ、スウェーデンが2045年、日本が2050年までにカーボンニュートラルを達成することを目標としている。この前例のない複雑な課題は、一つの組織、あるいは一つの国だけで解決できるものではない。目標を速やかに達成するには、企業、政府、スタートアップ、学術界、さらに国際的な枠組みに至るまで、幅広いレベルでの協力が欠かせない。
私たちは共に、新しい技術を生み出し、新たなバリューチェーンを構築し、新しいビジネスモデルを見いだし、そして私たちの暮らし方・働き方・消費・リサイクルのあり方を変えていかなければならない。そのためには、分野を超えたステークホルダーが力を結集し、共通の課題を解決していくことが求められる。多様なパートナーとつながり、最良の新しいアイデアを見つけ出し、育てていく必要がある。
この目的のもと、2021年にビジネス・スウェーデンと在日スウェーデン大使館、さらに日本に進出している先進的なスウェーデン企業とその日本のパートナーによって、「Pioneer the possible」プラットフォームが立ち上げられた。このプラットフォームの核心は、両国が力を合わせ、相互のネットワークと変革力を高めながら、日本における重要なサステナビリティ課題に対して、協働的かつ既存の枠を打ち破るアプローチで取り組むことにある。
「Pioneer the possible Japan」では毎年、特定の重要なサステナビリティ課題をテーマとして取り上げている。そしてそのたびに、課題に関連する日本とスウェーデンのステークホルダーに呼びかけ、未来に向けたアイデアやビジョンを共有し、実際の変革を推進する共同のイニシアチブや戦略を生み出してきた。これまでにも、日本でのEVインフラ整備を加速するパートナーシップの創出、資源の再利用拡大を可能にするリサイクル指針の改定、大規模なグリーン電力の共同調達など、具体的な成果につながっている。
スウェーデンと日本の組織が協力することで、リーダーシップを発揮し、競争力を強化し、気候への影響を減らすことができる。私たちは、地球温暖化との闘いに参加したいすべてのパートナーに呼びかけている。共に―Pioneer the possible を実現しよう。
Why are we doing this – and why now?
The green transition and the quest for sustainability is at a critical juncture in Sweden and Japan, with goals to reach net-zero by 2045 and 2050 respectively. This unprecedented and complex challenge cannot be solved by a single organization - or a single country - alone. Achieving our goals quickly requires collaboration at all levels – between companies, governments, startups, and academics, and also between nations.
Together, we need to innovate new technologies, build new value chains, find new business models, and change how we all live, work, consume, and recycle. This calls for stakeholders across disciplines to combine strengths and solve shared challenges. We need to connect with a diversity of partners to identify and grow the best new ideas.
With this aim in mind, the Pioneer the possible platform was created in 2021 by Business Sweden and the Swedish Embassy in Japan, alongside forward-thinking Swedish companies present in Japan and their Japanese partners. The key idea of the platform is for our two countries to join forces and to amplify our collective reach and transformative power, and to tackle salient sustainability challenges in Japan through a collaborative and barrier-breaking approach.
Each year, Pioneer the possible Japan focuses on a selected set of salient sustainability challenges. And each year, we call on Japanese and Swedish stakeholders relevant to each challenge to come together to share their ideas and visions for the future, and to create joint initiatives and strategies to drive real change. In years past, through working with the platform, companies have created partnerships to accelerate the EV infrastructure rollout in Japan, changed recycling guidelines to allow for increased resource re-use, and come together to jointly procure green electricity at scale, to give a few examples.
By working together, Swedish and Japanese organizations can take leadership positions, strengthen their competitiveness and reduce their climate footprint. We are calling on all partners who want to join the fight against global warming. Together, let us Pioneer the possible!
