The ambition of the Inauguration of the Swedish Pavilion is to mirror the vision and the key messages for our COP28 engagement. Hence, the inauguration aims to: - Illustrate the good examples of cross-border and cross-sector collaboration, public-private partnerships. - Showcase best practice examples in the areas of policy, finance, and innovations needed to mitigate the climate crises and to achieve the Paris Agreement. - Make sure our vision and objectives are aligned with the official negotiation agenda of COP28 and that conversations around adaptation, mitigation, finance, and loss and damage, are at the forefront of all our discussions. - Ensure a diverse representation in terms of gender, age, and nationality from the government of Sweden of and other UN member states, private sector, public sector, Academia, NGO, and youth. This transformation is a historic chance to build a better world. Together, let’s pioneer the possible.

The industry has to decarbonize if we are to reach the goals of the Paris agreement. Research, innovation and deployment of new technologies are necessary. Resilient and sustainable value-chains, a willingness to share risk and look for new business cases are key. The First Movers Coalition is one platform that match suppliers and customers. This seminar will explain how decarbonisation in value-chains is already happening today and how creating concrete demands and goals is a key for success.  

Today 14% of the global CO2 emissions comes from transports. At the same time transports are necessary for our society to function. Doconomy & ClimateView presents "Dialogues: The Climate Action Economy", a session exploring how finance, cities, and consumers can collaboratively drive progress toward a climate action economy. Thought leaders and experts in finance, sustainability, and data-driven solutions will discuss the intersection of climate action, financial wellbeing, and systemic change at COP28. Join the conversation to learn how responsible financial practices, data-driven insights, and behavioral science can contribute to addressing climate change while fostering economic stability and transitions to net zero in smart cities.

Tidal energy is predictable and has the potential to balance the global energy system, complementing the intermittency of wind and solar. Minesto’s ocean energy kites are demonstrated in the Faroe Islands, a nation with one of the most ambitious transition schemes in the world, aiming to become 100% renewable by 2030. The technology is also applicable along Norway’s coastline. A cooperation between Sweden, Faroe Islands, Denmark and Norway could realize a new industry of ocean energy,and be a lighthouse project for ocean economies around the world. Minesto invites for a dialogue on how such cooperation could be reality, proposing a 200 MW buildout roadmap of tidal energy kite parks underwater.  

Sweden has over recent years become the epicenter of impact tech, i.e. companies who based on forefront technology and science build solutions that benefit people and the planet by directly addressing global development goals. During this session, several impact tech companies together with leading representatives from Sweden’s impact tech ecosystem and beyond come together to discuss the role of impact tech to accelerate the global momentum toward a sustainable future. 

The course of the car industry from today until 2030 will play a key role in staying within the 1.5-degree limit of global warming. But the path we’re on will not get us to where we need to go. This session will discuss the transformative potential of circular practices within the food supply chain for mitigating climate change and preserving natural ecosystems. 

The session will discuss how growth, emissions reductions and economic empowerment can go hand in hand, and how successful partnerships and strategic alliances between local business communities in Sweden, the EU and globally are the main drivers of all three. 

Sweden is committed to having net-zero emissions by 2045. This target requires a substantial transformation of all levels of society. As part of this mission, the Swedish Parliament in 2017 adopted a climate policy framework for Sweden. The framework includes climate goals, a Climate Act and the Swedish Climate Policy Councill.

The Blue Mediterranean Partnership (BMP) is a platform for coordinating interventions and leveraging resources to enable sustainable blue economy investments in the Mediterranean region.  The BMP seeks to increase coherence, cooperation and coordination among all stakeholders concerned to increase the impact and visibility of sustainable blue economy investments around the Mediterranean.  Today’s event will be a signing ceremony of the Blue Mediterranean Partnership (BMP), which is a key milestone towards making it operational at the start of 2024.   

The Breakthrough Agenda report 2023 concludes that even if the transition to clean energy and sustainable solutions is accelerating, global emissions are still increasing and there is a need now to deploy near zero emission technologies at scale. For steel this means that we need 70 near zero emission steel plants by 2030. What is needed to get projects off the ground and how can value-chain collaboration and policy measures support this needed acceleration? 

As the world grapples with the dire consequences of climate change, the imperative for transitioning to clean energy sources has become increasingly apparent. This presentation delves into the critical reasons why the adoption of clean energy is not just an option but an urgent necessity for the planet's sustainable future. Additionally, it will provide a global outlook and stocktake over the diverse conditions and challenges faced by different regions worldwide in the ongoing energy transition.  

Transitioning to a circular economy reduces carbon emissions and is a powerful tool in climate mitigation efforts. Simultaneously a circular economy leads to a decreased demand for virgin raw materials and decreases the pressure on ecosystems, which in turn has a positive effect on climate adaptation efforts. This session explores how circularity offers synergies between mitigation and adaptation and demonstrates how Swedish innovations and circular business models contribute towards this goal.
