Representing 92% of global GDP, over 90 countries around the world have now announced net zero targets. There are no single or simple solutions to putting the world on a path which limits temperature rises to 1.5C above pre-industrialised levels, a crucial target to avoiding a climate catastrophe. However, a sustainable, secure and more equitable future energy system with netzero emissions will be essential and this future energy system must be based on continuous innovation, not only of technologies but also innovation of business models, financing, policy and regulatory approaches.
According to BloombergNEF New Energy Outlook 2023, the world needs to spend a total of $8.3 trillion on renewable energy deployment from 2023 - 2030 to align with a global net-zero trajectory by 2050. This unprecedented growth in renewables deployment requires innovative approaches to partnerships, business models and policies.We have most of the technologies needed to meet our short and medium term energy targets, but deployment of these technologies at speed and scale calls for new types of clean energy policies
and regulations based on coordinated and forward looking approaches. It also requires new business models based on broader societal, environmental, economic and energy system value, as
well as new innovative approaches to financing. All of this will be facilitated by the next generation of ambitious multi-stakeholder collaborations.
During this session, panelists will discuss how to evolve the focus on innovation beyond technology and towards business models, policies and regulations and financing, to accelerate the deployment of renewables and reduce emissions. They will also explore how to build new partnerships to accelerate these new types of innovations.

To limit global warming close to 1.5°C, the transition away from fossil fuels is an imperative. This imperative is also recognized in the recommendations of the UN secretary general’s High-Level Expert Group for net zero commitments, HLEG.

Ships can burn as much as 6% of fuel waiting in port and are emitting CO2. Depending on the industry segment, some ships might spend half their lifetime in ports due to complex port operations and waiting, emitting unnecessary and hazardous carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

On the occasion of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), the Swedish Embassy and DGVN invite you to a hybrid event with panel discussion and live link to COP28 in Dubai to draw a first conclusion of the achievements of the climate conference. Will COP28 send the important signal of increased ambition and action, not at least from the biggest emitters, that the climate crisis so urgently requires? This question will stand at the centre of our event, which takes place in the final hours of the climate negotiations. The transition away from fossil fuels is an imperative to limit global warming close to 1.5°C. Given the pressing need to phase out fossil fuels, companies have a crucial role to rapidly phase out fossil fuels from their value chains, to put positive pressure on governments, and send a clear signal that we have entered “the beginning of the end” of the fossil era. This session, complementing the Fossil to Clean campaign and the Fossil Fuel Non-proliferation Treaty, will showcase examples of companies that have committed to map fossil fuels in their value chains and are taking concrete steps to eliminate these emissions. By sharing their experiences and best practices, these companies demonstrate that this transition is not only achievable but is also desirable from a competitive viewpoint. 

There exists a gap between intent and action for a green and just transition in agriculture and food production. For a sustainable and resilient food production system, technological innovations and financial mechanisms must be made accessible to the last-mile; that is the small-hold farmer.
