The seminar will focus on today’s nitrogen challenge and how new solutions, such as EasyMining’s Aqua2N technology can increase biogas production by removing ammonia in high concentrations, and at the same time eliminate the emissions of laughing gas. But it will also touch upon how to store CO2 in materials as well in boreholes.  By sourcing biogenic CO2 from biogas production, Ragn-Sells’ OSA project has developed a solution to produce a carbon-negative product that stores the CO2 in the material and Stockholm Exergi has its leading BECCS project. Cicular solutions will reduce the risk that we overshoot the planetary boundaries.

The world’s 500 million small-hold farms produce one-third of our global food and employ up to two billion people, making them crucial stakeholders in food production systems. Small-hold farmers can be Impact Generators. But they lack access to innovative technologies to adapt to climate resilient farming.

There exists a gap between intent and action for a green and just transition in agriculture and food production. For a sustainable and resilient food production system, technological innovations and financial mechanisms must be made accessible to the last-mile; that is the small-hold farmer.

The transition away from fossil fuels is an imperative to limit global warming close to 1.5°C. Given the pressing need to phase out fossil fuels, companies have a crucial role to rapidly phase out fossil fuels from their value chains, to put positive pressure on governments, and send a clear signal that we have entered “the beginning of the end” of the fossil era. This session, complementing the Fossil to Clean campaign and the Fossil Fuel Non-proliferation Treaty, will showcase examples of companies that have committed to map fossil fuels in their value chains and are taking concrete steps to eliminate these emissions. By sharing their experiences and best practices, these companies demonstrate that this transition is not only achievable but is also desirable from a competitive viewpoint.

This session will specifically: Explore the importance of food systems within global climate discussions and negotiations  Discuss how international agreements integrate food system considerations, their successes and shortcomings Showcase examples of countries that are successfully aligning their national policies with a more systemic thinking around food systems, emphasizing the potential role of radical policy shifts in achieving such alignment. Highlight the role of actionable commitments and tangible pathways in driving the sustainable transformation of food systems Examine policies and policy-enabling frameworks that promote sustainable food systems fit for the future. 

On the occasion of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), the Swedish Embassy and DGVN invite you to a hybrid event with panel discussion and live link to COP28 in Dubai to draw a first conclusion of the achievements of the climate conference. Will COP28 send the important signal of increased ambition and action, not at least from the biggest emitters, that the climate crisis so urgently requires? This question will stand at the centre of our event, which takes place in the final hours of the climate negotiations. Close to the pulse of the negotiations, we want to discuss what results can be expected and what priorities will be set by Sweden, Germany and other parties at COP28.
